Refugees in Europe

Refugees, people who have been forced to leave their countries in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster, have become a big issue now discussed all over the world, especially in western countries. However, according to the existing system, the European countries should not receive refugees indeed.

First of all, if the government decides to take in refugees, then the local citizens have to compete with the refugees for limited resources, such as food, water, land, medical services and facilities, education, transportation, social services and employment. For instance, in two thousand fifteen, Germany spent over ten billion Euros for asylum seekers, providing them accommodation, medical services, education, and programs for learning German to fit in with the society and to find jobs more easily. The asylum seekers who are not eighteen years old yet can have more welfare and have the right to invite their parents to Germany to live with them. Because the refugees flooded into UK, leading to the insufficiency of schools, when two thousand twenty comes, it will still need about three hundred thousand schools to build.

In addition to resources problems, security is also a concern. Not only the crime rates will rise, but also terrorist attacks happened more often than ever. For example, November 2015 Paris attacks. One hundred and thirty people died and three hundred sixty-eight people injured. Some of the attackers were the migrants and refugees entering Europe. Another example is New Year’s Eve sexual assaults in Germany. During the two thousand fifteen to two thousand sixteen New Year’s Eve celebration, there were lots of sexual assaults, twenty-four alleged rapes and several thefts happening in Germany, and most of them happened in Cologne city center. According to the police, about one thousand and two hundred women were assaulted sexually and at least two thousand men were involved, who committed in groups. After investigation, most of the participants were the asylum seekers. What’s more, the Germany government and the news media hid these incidents at the beginning to support the refugee accommodation policy.

Some people pointed out that the refugees actually could resolve the problem of the labor shortage in German. Nevertheless, the unemployment rate of the refugees from Arabian countries was the highest of all in the foreign groups. Compared to the rate of Germans’ (7%), there were 14% of foreigners in German that didn’t have a job.

Besides the employment, many people think that accommodating refugees is reasonable and essential due to humanitarianism. Nonetheless, without basic population control and staple identity authentication, this statement would be only a kind of self-satisfied. Accommodating too many people to afford would reduce the life quality of both the refugees and nationals. What’s more, without any identity authentication, the terrorists can make use of fleeing and launch terrorist attacks more easily. Every country that is planning to accommodate refugees ought to set up a complete and rigorous system to face the problems that might happen, or accommodating refugees might results in more and more needs of escaping.

Accommodating refugees results in so many problems, like resources insufficiency, economy issues, security concern and so on. Before making the appropriate policies and plans, and the whole Europe gets together, the ideal decision is not to accommodate the refugees.

Final writing

“Knowledge is power.” No one can deny the importance of knowledge. We are human beings; we learn, we think, and we create. If we stop or even refuse to learn, we will become animals, only having physical desire, which is the difference to tell animals from human beings. We have learned a lot since we were born. We learnt how to speak our languages from our parents and family; we learnt life skills from every day of our lives; we went to schools, from elementary schools, junior high schools, senior high schools, to college, to learn the knowledge that we need to know as human beings and as a part of the world we lived in from teachers, more specifically from books. We have learned for so many years, almost for entire life. The knowledge we gained can devised into two parts, one is from books, and other is from our experience and our lives. The question is which source is more important?

Books contain every kind of knowledge from different part of the world, from ancient times to modern times. So much precious knowledge that human cannot remember is recorded in books. We cannot deny books are an important source to gain knowledge. That is the reason why we went to schools for years, and that’s why almost everyone will tell you to read as much as you can. Books are of importance, but sometimes if one person only has the knowledge gained from books but lack actual experience, this person may fail many things in his or her life. For example, many students in college study management as their major; they learn a lot from the books about how to manage people and companies. However, when they go into society, they are poor at manage their subordinates. Not because they did not learn enough from books, it’s because they lack experience. So I think the knowledge gained from books is more important than the knowledge gained from books.
