“A book is a
dream that you hold in your hands.” “A book is a gift you can open again and
again.” Not everyone, but many people love reading. However, as the time passed
and the technology develops so rapidly, there are two forms of books for
readers to choose—e-books and paper books. Both have their advantages and
disadvantages.
First, let’s
talk about the environment protection. According to the resources, the USA book
publishing industry consumes thirty two million trees per year, and it’s only
in the USA. Think about how many trees will be cut down to print paper books in
the whole world. However, E-books are environmental-friendly, which can solve
this problem thoroughly. You just need the electronic devices, and then you can
read lots of e-books. And, most important of all, you can save trees and the
earth at the same time.
Next, E-books are
very easy to carry with you. All you need is your smartphone, your tablet, or
your notebook; then you can carry many electronic books with you to everywhere.
Nevertheless, paper books are really really heavy. You can say that carrying
several thick books on your back is like a torture.
Despite the
conveniences of e-books, there are still some disadvantages of e-books. For
example, as more and more time you spend on your electronic devices to read the
e-books, it will cause eye strain and affect children’s eyesight development. Besides,
using electronic devices before going to bed will interfere with user’s ability
to sleep.
On the other
hand, paper books still have many advantages. For instance, the touch and the
smell of paper books are not replaceable. Also, the feeling of turning pages
makes reading a physically pleasure.
As for myself, I
love both, depending on the situation. Usually I enjoy reading paper books as
touching the pages and holding the books make me satisfied. However, when I have
to carry a lot of heavy books and go out, I will prefer e-books. Both e-books
and paper books have their own advantages and disadvantages. No matter which one
you choose, e-books or paper books, reading books is still a wonderful journey.
